H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) organized and hosted the 2017 YouthConnekt Africa Summit in Kigali, Rwanda from 19 – 21 July 2017. The summit was held under the theme, “From Potential to Success”.
The summit facilitated a platform for all partners involved in youth development to synergize around policies, programs and partnerships that are critical in unleashing Africa’s youth potential. The summit also marked the official roll out of the program across the rest of the continent, launch the YouthConnekt Africa Hub and the YouthConnekt Africa Empowerment Fund.
Zambian delegation was led by Hon. Moses Mawere, MP, Minister of Youth and Sport accompanied by Hon. Margaret D. Mwanakatwe, MP, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industryand Dr. Martine Mtonga, Permanent Secretary, Centre of Excellence for E-Governance and ICTs.
On the side-lines of the Summit, the two ministers,Hon.Mwanakatwe together with Hon. Mawere held a meeting with Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank to discuss possible areas of collaboration between the Zambian Government and the Bank specifically in the area of supporting youth entrepreneurship through scaling up of value chain cluster programs and establishment of business incubators.
