The main function of the Department of Industry is to facilitate investment and growth of the Industrial sectors with the primary aim of correcting distortions in the economy.
The Department’s main objective, among others, therefore is to increase the contribution of the manufacturing sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and sustainable human development.
The Department of Industry undertook a number of programmes and activities during the 2001-2005 period.
The department facilitated the increase in the number of projects due to the favourable investment climate and stabilization of the macro-economic indicators, increase in the number of micro and small-scale enterprises from 7 000 in 2001 to 10 000 in 2005 and the signing of eleven (11) bilateral agreements.
