The Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry (MCTI) is Zambia's principal Government body responsible for administering national policy for private sector development. It coordinates industrial, commercial and trade matters and liases with various public and private sector organisations to facilitate the implementation of government sector policies related to trade and industry. This is in line with the Ministry's mission statement. |

Funding to the Citizen Economic Empowerment Fund (CEEF) has been suspended. This follows poor performance of the fund. Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, Robert Sichinga, announced the suspension in Lusaka during a press briefing held at the Ministry's boardroom recently. The Minister further directed that the CEEC should not receive or process any new applications.
He also directed CEEC to institute measures to recover all existing loans due, without political interference and in a business like-manner. The measures to recover money from loans include engagement of nationwide debt collectors, institution of legal proceedings against defaulters except those which were only partly funded and, engagement of an independent consultant to rating of loans for recovery purposes.

THE Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) in Luapula province has released more than K1.6 billion for the establishment of a palm processing plant and 56 new projects which include five Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing sector. Provincial empowerment coordinator Martha Sanjobo said in Mansa yesterday that the palm oil processing facility which was based in Kawambwa was one of the six SMEs funded by CEEC this year.

A DELEGATION of Australian investors is next month expected to visit Zambia and plans to pump Aus $4 billion (about K20.9 trillion) in various sectors of the economy. The first group of Australian investors is scheduled to arrive in Zambia on February 12, 2012.
