Since independence in 1964, Zambia has prepared and implemented several medium term national development plans. Each of these instruments carried a theme and strategic focus, which primarily aimed to improve the social economic conditions of our people. These plans, however, were not prepared within the context of a long-term perspective, which looked over the horizon of a generation.
The Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP) 2011–2015 is the successor to the Fifth National Development Plan (FNDP), aimed at actualising the aspirations of the Vision 2030 of becoming “a prosperous middle-income nation by 2030”. While the FNDP set the pace for improving economic infrastructure and investing in human development, the SNDP aims to build on the gains of the FNDP in the process of attaining the Vision 2030.
The Ministry of Trade Commerce, Trade and Industry (MCTI) reviewed and developed a five year Strategic Plan for the period 2006 - 2010 following the expiry of the 2001 - 2005 Strategic Plan.
The main aim of the 2006 - 2010 strategic Plan is to promote the growth and development of the commercial trade, and industrial sectors as espoused in the Fifth National Development Plan (FNDP) and the Commercial, Trade and Industrial (CTI) Policy.
