The Ministry has a number of donor funded projects operational to support program implementation in the Ministry.

Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF)

The Zambia EIF Tier 1 National Implementation Unit Sustenance and Capacity Enhancement (NIUSCE) project entered its second phase and operations commenced in late August 2016. The Project builds on Tier 1 Phase I which was implemented from April, 2010 to 31st July, 2014. The main objectives of the project are to support Zambia’s integration in the global trading system and to assist LDCs to mainstream trade into national development strategies. The EIF is supported by a multi-donor trust fund, the EIF Trust Fund, with contributions from 23 donors.

Regional Integration Capacity Building (RICB) Project

This project is supported by the European Union under the framework of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The objective of the project is to build capacity of Member States and enable them to implement economic reform programmes of regional integration and also to support Member Countries in participating fully in the COMESA, EAC & Tripartite FTAs and COMESA & EAC customs unions.

Agribusiness and Trade Project (World Bank)

This project is supported by the Word Bank. The aim of project is to provide Market Linkages for producer organizations and Agribusiness SMEs, mainly involved in agro processing. The Project also seeks to enhance the business environment for agribusiness and trade by supporting competition, regulatory and quality assurance institutions.

Trade Related Facility Project

The SADC Trade Related Facility Project for Zambia is being implemented with the aim to assist Zambia implement commitments made under the SADC Protocol on Trade. The main objective is to attain higher level of compliance and implementation of commitments made thereby contribute towards sustainable development in the country.

The specific objectives include the following

  • To contribute towards industrial development of selected sectors through capacity building on general business etiquette, Quality and Standards requirements;
  • b) To promote trade facilitation through effective customs cooperation and implementation of the e-certificate window and reducing the gap in knowledge on rules of origin;
  • c) To ensure domestic preparedness for services trade liberalisation under SADC through generating awareness and building capacity on the earmarked schedule of services;
