Domestic Trade Department
The Department is responsible for stimulating growth of the commercial and trade sectors through the formulation of strategies, policies and legislation aimed at enhancing the competitiveness in the commercial and trade sectors as well as facilitation of trade.
Proudly Zambian Campaign – The Proudly Zambian Campaign (PZC) is a Government initiative that was initiated in 2004 by the Ministry in the quest to promote the production and consumption of high-quality Zambian products. In 2018, the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) which made ZAM the sole issuer of the official PZC logo and the ‘Proudly Zambian’ trademark. Expos, Shows and Exhibitions –Traditionally, the country hosts three (3) main Annual International Trade and Investment promotional activities which the Copperbelt Agricultural, Mining, Industrial, Networking and Enterprise Exhibition (CAMINEX) held in Kitwe, the Agricultural and Commercial Show Zambia (ACSZ) held in Lusaka and the Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF) held in Ndola. In addition to the above, the Ministry has facilitated various trade promotion activities at Provincial, National and sector level which are organized by the Provincial Administration or the private sector.
Namibia Trade Fair
The Ministry facilitated the participation of private sector players in the Swakopmund International Trade Fair and Expo (SWAITEX), an annual Expo organised under the umbrella of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Swakopmund, that took place in October, 2022. The Expo was held under the theme “Towards a shared Economic Vision – Our Shared Destiny”. It hosted exhibitors from various sectors.
The Zambian delegation was led by H.E. Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia who officiated as a Guest of Honour. The delegation comprised of senior government officials and 10 private sector companies from the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
The results of the fair include the following:
- The joint trade commissions intended to increase trade between the two Countries
- Initiated resolutions for operations of Zambia’s dry port in Walvis Bay
- Business Linkages for Mpulungu Habour, Food Reserve Agency (FRA) and pesticide company
- Created networking opportunities and synergies for the chambers of Commerce
- Increased trade among private sector key players between the two Countries
Expo 2020 Dubai
The Expo 2020 Dubai from October, 2021 to March, 2022 in Dubai, United Arabs Emirates which was aimed at marketing investment opportunities, and sharing knowledge and practices in the priority sectors (Tourism, Agriculture, Manufacturing, Energy, Mining and Infrastructure|) of the economy on ways to exploit in natural resources the country is endowed with.
During the Expo, Zambia was allocated a National Day to celebrate the cultural heritage and natural resource endowments and promote trade and investment. The National Day was graced by His Excellency, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.
The participation of both public and private sector in the Expo resulted in a number of success stories which include among others:
(i) The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry with Abu Dhabi and Ajman Chambers of Commerce and Industries on Cooperation;
(ii) Increased exports of Zambian Products such as Avocados, Blue berries, Cashew nuts, Handicraft and Honey among others.
(iii) The opening of outlets of Zambian Companies in Dubai such as;
(a) Miyara the Gemstone Gallery – A Zambian Company has expanded its operations in Dubai with the opening of two more shops in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
(b) Gournet Restraints – entered into a strategic partnership with Dubai Based Seed Group, a company of the Private Office of Sheikh Saeed Bin Ahmend Al Maktoum which will allow Gournet to explore and expand the presence of food service market in the UAE and Middle East.
(c) M’simbi dolls – working towards opening an outlet in Dubai.
