Technical Regulations Department
The Department of Technical Regulations is charged with the responsibility of implementing the National Technical Regulation Framework and ensure transparency and consistency in the development, implementation and maintenance of technical regulations in accordance with the requirements of the National Technical Regulations Act. No. 5 of 2017.
The Department has two Units which mirror each other:
The Audit Unit which is charged with the responsibility of auditing technical regulations in order to ensure compliance to the National Technical Regulation Framework.
The Compliance Unit which is charged with the responsibility of technical regulation development in order to safeguard public safety and health, consumer and environmental protection.
1. Review Technical Regulations.
2. Facilitate Zambia’s participation in WTO TBT Agreement.
3. Act as Notification point for Zambia with regard to technical regulation.
4. Coordinate business reforms or regulations with the Business Regulatory Review Agency.
1. Develop and implement a National Quality Infrastructure and Technical Regulation Framework aligned and consistent with international best practices.
2. Facilitate trainings of local assessors.
3. Promote linkages between national quality institutions and manufacturing companies.
4. Strengthen the capacity of standards and quality assurance institutions to deliver support services to the manufacturing sector.
