The Zambia Border Post Upgrading Project (ZBPUP) has started the implementation of various trade facilitation programmes for quarter one and two to boost economic growth and ease the cost of doing business.
The Ministry is implementing these activities through ZBPUP funded under the 11the COMESA European Development Fund (EDF) Trade Facilitation Programme since November 2020.
ZBPUP is implementing among other things: capacity building trainings; continued sensitisation related interventions for border agencies and small-scale traders on the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA); and Sanitary and Phytosanitary /Technical Barriers to Trade (SPS/TBT) related issues.
Recently, ZBPUP undertook various missions to build capacity, evaluate tenders and develop food safety regulations.
So far, the missions undertaken include Website Management Training held in Chilanga; Planning meeting for the Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on Food Safety Regulations conducted in Lusaka; and Review and finalise Food Safety Regulations held in Chirundu.
Others are Joint One Stop Border Post (OSBP) Capacity Building Trainings on TBT and SPS on Trade and Trade Facilitation issues at Chirundu and Nakonde Borders respectively, Tender Evaluation of various equipment acquired by ZBPUP for Ministry of Home Affairs, RTSA and ZRA held in Chilanga.
